About the Badgers MCLA Team

2011 MCLA Badgers

Wisconsin MCLA

The University of Wisconsin – Madison began competing in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association in the spring of 2010 as a member of the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference. In just two seasons, the team has established itself as one of the perennial powerhouses of the GRLC.

The MCLA team at UW prides itself on offering the highest level of lacrosse competition at the university, while still stressing the importance of academics, community service and social involvement. During the fall, the team makes every possible effort to avoid scheduling conflicts with Badger home football games to ensure that our student athletes enjoy all that Madison has to offer.

Playing in the MCLA allows the University of Wisconsin to annually compete against the highest level of lacrosse talent the Midwest has to offer. The GRLC conference includes teams like Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Purdue. Additionally, the team annually schedules a matchups with its storied rival, Minnesota.

The UW roster includes players from all over the country, with a bulk of the roster coming from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. The team also fields athletes from California, Georgia, Maine, Missouri, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York. Regardless of geographic location, we seek dedicated, responsible, and motivated individuals who seek to play top-level competition, and compete for an MCLA National Championship.

In 2010, the Badgers took an 8-3 regular season record into the GRLC Playoffs in St. Louis. After a decisive win over Iowa, Wisconsin defeated five-time defending GRLC Champion Lindenwood University in a thrilling 15-14 game. The Badgers went on to fall to Illinois in the conference championship, but not before making their mark as team to be reckoned with in the GRLC.

Wisconsin continued its success in 2011 by boasting a 10-2 regular season record en route to winning the GRLC North title. After defeating Illinois 10-5 in the regular season finale, the Badgers returned to St. Louis for their second consecutive GRLC Playoff appearance. Wisconsin fell to the Illini 13-11 in the GRLC Semi-Finals.  Nine Badgers were selected to the GRLC All Conference teams in 2011
