Mike Storts Coaching the Badgers
Mike Storts will be stepping into the role as head coach for the Badgers MCLA 2012 season. This is Mike's third year as a college coach and second with the Badgers. He will be replacing Jaron Klopstein, who due to personal reasons has voluntarily stepped down to an assistant coaching role.
A 2005 graduate of Verona, Storts was the premier defenseman on the state's first dynasty. Verona played in the state championship game in 2003, and won the title in 2004 and 2005.
After high school, a few East Coast NCAA teams came knocking but Storts opted to play at the University of Minnesota, where he would be a two-time Captain and earn First Team All-Conference recognition twice as the Gophers' top defenseman.
After College, Storts gained some coaching experience on the sidelines of the Gophers, as well as coached in a state championship season for his alma matter, Verona Area High School. Last year, Storts stepped on as a Defensive coordinator for the Badgers. In his first season, his defense averaged only 6.33 Points against per game, one of the best in the GRLC.
Jaron Klopstein was the head coach of the Badgers during the 2011 season. He is also the Director of Infinity Lacrosse based out of Madison Wisconsin. Due to other obligations that required more of his time, he has voluntarily stepped down from the Head Coaching position to a more specialized offensive coach and coordinator. During his career with the Badgers, Klopstein posted a 10-3 record earning the badgers the number one seed in the GRLC Tournament and coached 9 All Conference players, 1 All American and 4 MCLA All Scholar athletes.
Jaron, who began playing lacrosse in fifth grade, found a love for Wisconsin Lacrosse in his freshman year of high school. At Middleton High School, Klopstein would go on to win a state title before moving to Saint Louis his senior year.
Klopstein would go on to be recruited by several NCAA D1, D2, and D3 schools, but opted to stay in Saint Louis and play with NCAA D3 Fontbonne University. While at Fontbonne, Klopstein started for two years at attack and was one of the team's leading scorers. He proceeded to move back to Milwaukee and finally to Madison to finish his collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where in his senior season he was voted team MVP.
