Copy Fall 2004

Wisconsin culminated a stellar 14-1 fall season with another NIU Championship. UW men were Champions at NIU Fall Classic for the second year in a row. Wisconsin's rock solid defense led by goalie Tony Tran let in a total of 7 goals over 3 games [ Tony gave up 3 in the first game and let no balls past him in the next 2 including the championship . , The dominating defensive effort ,was spearheaded by D men Julian DeFranco and Keith Kreiner. The offense had more than enough firepower led by stand out play by attack play by , Ryan Lynch 5 g , 4 a and Lee Lowenthal 7 g 2 a . Midfielder Dan Gitlin got the lion's share of the face offs and led the middie scoring with 5 G , 3 A . UW played short handed most of the way [ many players missed because of homecoming + homework] , by Sunday only 4 starters from the 10 who started back in Sept , were there to play . Many of the young players contributed , Matt page played well on first Midfield, freshman Mike Mullin scored a hat trick in the Championship game , and freshman Cory Glazer contributed a goal in the tough game against Ill. State.

Wisconsin won the 4th annual Mad City Tournament with a hard fought 8-5 victory over Western Michigan . After dominating play against NIU [14-1]and Purdue 10-5 on Saturday ,it took a gritty come from behind effort and holding the Bronco's scoreless in the second half, to win the Championshipon Sunday. The defense ,led by goalie Boris Stein and standout defenseman Mike Levin, was the key to the victory. Sharpshooting Lee Lowenthal [3G-2A] and Joe Barnett [1G-1A] on attack and Midfielder's Scott Olsen [2G], Dan Gitlin[1G], and Mike Schmidt [1G] provided the offense . Defenseman Brian Horn came through by neutralizing the Bronco's stong face-off man. The Badgers had multible scoring opportunities and were repeatedly turned away by the Bronco goalie , but fought tenaciously and eventually put the game away in the 4th quarter. Iowa beat Purdue in overtime to claim 3rd place.
