About Us

Overview

The Wisconsin Lacrosse Club at University of Wisconsin - Madison, has been a student organization since 1978. The team is open to all UW students: undergraduate and graduate, full and part time. The team has a long history of playing excellent lacrosse while still making it fun to play and be part of the team. In addition to great on the field competition and play, many players have found their best and most lasting college friends on the lacrosse team. It's an excellent and quick way for new students to feel part of things right away, and a chance to get to know people of a great range of ages.

Practices and Games

The team(s) are run as a club normally with 2 practices per week (currently Wed and Fri 5pm - 6:30pm) at the far west intramural fields on the west end of campus. Games are generally on weekends. We avoid playing during home football games as much as possible, and try to limit play to one day per weekend. We do have 1-2 overnights for tournaments each semester as well.

Requirements

In general the best attempts are made to play good team lacrosse while leaving players enough time for study and other interests and commitments. Dues are $100 per semester or $175 for the year. Dues cover all team expenses on and off of the field with the exception of the Mardi-Gras trip. Players are greatly encouraged to bring their own equipment (white/red billed helmets and red gloves prefered, but any color is acceptable). The team has a limited amount of equipment for new players who want to try the sport. Uniforms are $80. Optional: custom team gloves ($105), custom team helmet ($100).

Schedules and League Affiliation

Fall Ball

Our team plays a full 15 game fall schedule, centered around tournaments. These include our own Mad City Tourney, as well as tournaments at Northern Illinois, Illinios State, Michigan State, and others. We play predominantly college teams such as Marquette, Duluth, Purdue, Illinios, Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, and Western Michigan, but also play area men's clubs such as Lincoln Park, Chicago Lacrosse, Windy City, and Lakeshore. The fall season is frequently capped off by a costume party/awards presentation over Halloween.

Winter Tournaments

We have a traditional winter trip to the Mardi-Gras Tournament in Febuary, preceeded by some indoor practices. The last few years we've been joined on the trip by the UW-Madison Women's team, a great time is had by all.

Spring League Season

In the spring we compete in the Great Lakes Lacrosse League, a club league comprised of 20 teams: UW-Madison (A&B), Northwestern, Northern Illinois, De Paul, University of Chicago, Northern Michigan, Loyola (Chicago), UW-Platteville, UW-LaCrosse, UW-Whitewater, UW-Stout, UW-Milwaukee,UW-Osh Kosh, UW-River Falls, St. Norbert's, St. Mary's of Minnesota, Michigan Tech, Trombones (formerly of Marquette U), and Mad Cow (a combined Madison and Milwaukee Men's club) We are the current champions, hosting and winning both the 2004 and 2005 Championship tournaments. There is some possibility of future affiliation with the National Collegiate Lacrosse League, with teams from New York to Ohio. This league plays a national Championship and plays as a club rather than a NCAA type league.
